Why homeowners choose H&A

Building an ADU shouldn’t
feel like a gamble.

It usually does. You are asked to commit to six figures of construction in your own back yard, based on a quote, a drawing and a handshake, and to hope the finish level in your head matches the one in theirs. We built our company so you never have to guess.

01

See it before you decide.

Our design center holds the actual cabinetry, tile, stone, flooring and fixtures. You choose your ADU with your hands, in a room, not from a mood board.

02

Talk to the person responsible.

You work directly with the licensed general contractor who carries the permit, not a commission-paid salesperson who hands you off after signing.

03

One company, start to keys.

Design, engineering, plans, permits, inspections and construction sit with one team. Nobody at H&A gets to blame another trade for your timeline.

The part most contractors can’t offer

Proof you can
walk into.

An ADU is the largest thing most people ever buy without seeing it first. So we removed that problem. Before you commit a dollar, you can walk our design center in Canoga Park and put your hands on every surface that will end up in your build, then walk a finished H&A ADU and meet the contractor who will sign your permit.

  • Every finish in one room. Cabinetry, counters, tile, flooring, doors, plumbing and lighting, side by side at full size.
  • Decisions made once. Selections settled early are the single biggest reason a build stays on its schedule.
  • In-house designers. Our own designers and architects work the plan with you, including 3D walkthroughs before anything is built.

The people, not the brand

You’ll know who
is at your house.

H&A is run by Golan Azran, the licensed general contractor on your permit.

Our homeowners tend to name the people they worked with. Meshi, Orel and Ben all appear by name in our Google reviews. That doesn’t happen when a company sends whoever was cheapest that week.

More space. More value.

Whatever you are
picturing back there.

Homeowners come to us at very different points. Some know exactly what they want. Plenty are still working it out, which is a completely normal place to start a conversation.

Room for family

A parent who shouldn’t be far away. An adult child who can’t afford to leave the area yet. Close, but with their own front door.

Bright, newly finished ADU room with a ceiling fan and wall-mounted air conditioning.

Space that earns

A separate, permitted unit on land you already own, with a use for it that can change as your life does.

ADU interior with a vaulted ceiling, long counter with stools and sliding doors to the garden.

Somewhere to work

A studio, office or guest space that is genuinely separate from the house, rather than a bedroom you gave up.

Exterior of a finished ADU with landscaping, stone borders and a private paved path.

Long-term value

Permitted square footage, built properly, that stays on your property record and works for the next owner too.

“We added a new ADU, which is very stressful. Orel and H&A My Design made the process smooth. They handled everything from idea through completion with full permits. They were able to finish ahead of schedule and have exceeded all our expectations.”

“After doing research to find the best company to turn my garage into a ‘granny flat’ for me that would allow a daughter to take over my home, I was lucky enough to connect with H&A. From the very first meeting and throughout the months of construction, their representative was professional, communicative, and able to solve both minor and complex details.”

“We got about 6 different bids and at the end we decided to go with H&A… The most impressive was they did what they said they would do every step of the way. Our project manager was Meshy and she always let us know who was coming each day and what they would be doing.”

Permitted, licensed, accountable

Our name goes on
the permit board.

Every H&A ADU is a permitted build. Our license number sits on the sign out front, on the plans, and on the inspection record. There is exactly one company answerable for the work in your yard.

Paying for it

Financing, explained
before you need it.

Most ADUs get financed. That part is normal. What is not normal is how often the financing is where the cost quietly goes up, through a marked-up contract price, or interest that was deferred rather than removed and lands in month thirteen.

We would rather walk you through the arithmetic while you can still change your mind about it.

What we’ll show you

  • Who the lender actually is. Not “financing available”, but the name of the company whose paperwork you would be signing.
  • The rate, the term, and any fee. In writing, alongside the scope, before a deposit.
  • What happens when a promotional period ends. Deferred interest is not the same thing as no interest, and the difference can be tens of thousands of dollars.
  • How the financed price compares to the cash price. Ask every contractor you are talking to this question. It is the one that matters most.

Financing is arranged through a third-party lender and is subject to their approval and terms. We do not quote rates on this page. You will get the actual figures in writing with your scope of work.

Design & build process

You don’t have to
figure this out alone.

01

We come to the property

We look at the lot, setbacks, access and utilities, and tell you honestly what it will and won’t take.

02

We define the project together

Size, layout and how you actually intend to use it, before anyone talks about numbers.

03

Detailed scope and real pricing

A written scope you can compare line by line against any other bid you are holding.

04

You visit the design center

You select the finishes in person, at full size, with a designer. This is the step that keeps the rest predictable.

05

Design and engineering

Our designers and architects produce the drawings, including 3D walkthroughs of your unit.

06

Plans and permits

We prepare and submit, and we handle the back-and-forth with the city.

07

Construction and inspections

A project manager runs your build and tells you who is coming and what they are doing.

08

Your new space

Final inspection, sign-off, and a permitted unit that belongs on your property record.

Where we build

We travel further
than you’d expect.

An ADU is months of work, so we go where the project is. If you are roughly an hour to an hour and a half from our Canoga Park showroom, we build there, and the contractor running your project can still be at your property when it matters.

Every city below is one we have actually worked in, not a list of places we would consider. If you don’t see yours, call us and we will tell you straight away whether we are the right fit.

Before you get in touch

The questions we
get asked most.

What actually happens after I submit the form?
We call you to understand what you are considering and answer the obvious questions. If it sounds like a fit on both sides, we arrange a time to come to the property. There is no cost for either step, and no obligation after them.
Do I already need to know what I want to build?
No. A lot of the homeowners we speak to are at the stage of “we think there is room back there, but we don’t know what is allowed.” Working that out with you is the first part of the job, not something you need to arrive with.
Do you handle the plans and permits, or do I?
We do. Design, engineering, drawings, submittal and the correspondence with the city all sit with us, through to final inspection. Two of our Google reviews specifically describe how city and inspector issues were handled by our team rather than passed back to the homeowner.
How long does an ADU take?
It depends on your city, your lot and the scope, and any contractor who gives you a firm number before seeing your property is guessing. Permitting timelines in particular vary by jurisdiction. We will give you a realistic range once we have walked the property, and put it in the written scope.
What does an ADU cost?
We don’t publish a price, because a real ADU cost depends on size, foundation, utility runs, access and finish level. What we will do is give you a detailed written scope you can compare line by line against any other bid, which is usually more useful than a headline number.
Can I see a finished H&A ADU in person?
Yes. Alongside the design center in Canoga Park, we can usually arrange for you to see completed work. We ask for reasonable notice, since these are people’s homes.
Who will I actually be dealing with?
H&A is family owned and operated, and you deal directly with the licensed general contractor rather than a commission-paid intermediary. During construction you also have a named project manager, the person our reviewers tend to name by name.

More space. More value.

Your property has
more to give.

Start with a conversation and a look at your lot. You will find out what is actually possible back there, and you will be able to judge us the same way we ask you to judge the work: in person.
